The court hearing of President Win Myint and Aung San Suu Kyi, which was scheduled for today (March 24th), is rescheduled to April 1st, according to defendants’ lawyer Khin Maw Zaw.

“After going into the court, we were unable to use Video Conferencing. The reasoning was that there was no internet connectivity. As such, they rescheduled to April 1st. In order to reschedule to that date, they had to ask the other side over the phone. The presiding judge said that a letter from a representative is expected on the 1st of April. Without a letter from a representative, nothing can be done. CMP (Case Management Program) cannot be done as well. That is why the judge says hearing could be possible on that day,” states Defendants’ lawyer Khin Maw Zaw.

Khin Maw Zaw added that a team of seven lawyers has been formed to take care of the lawsuits involving the State Counselor. President Win Myint has been charged under Natural Disaster Act Article 25 and 505 (B), whereas the State Counselor has been charged under the Natural Disaster Act Article 25, Export Import Law Article 8, Communication Law Article 67, and Article 505 (B). During the previous court hearing on March 15, the court hearing was also rescheduled due to internet connectivity issues.
