More people are withdrawing their money from Myawaddy Bank in Wardan Street in Yangon from February 16, sources said.

The bank officials announced that only 200 people are allowed to withdraw money daily and five million from each savings account.

“I have been queuing since 8:30 am. I only have about Ks 30,000 in my hand. Now I am withdrawing money from my savings account due to my health. Now tokens are out and the bank is closed around 12 pm. It made me in trouble as I cannot withdraw money today,” said a woman.

Some queued up in front of the bank since early 5 am.

About 500 people are queued up to withdraw money and some are elderly.

“We cannot withdraw money as much as we can and we are not satisfied with the services provided by the bank. I cannot come daily and we are only allowed to withdraw K5 million per savings account daily,” said a man from Kyauktada Township.

Myawaddy Bank reopened on February 15 and it was closed around 11 am as more people are trying to withdraw money.
