A misunderstanding over the distribution of Ks 40000 given by the government so that a man injured the ward elder, a woman, in ward No 1, in the east part of Hlaingtharyar township on 22 November.    

It happened that a man of 50 years from ward (1) of Hlaingthayar East township was not satisfied over not getting  K 40000 contributed by the government. At about 4pm on 22 Nov. he had an argument with the ward elder, a woman, over that issue and cut the ward elder with a knife which he had readily brought along.    

Fortunately, the son of the victim happened to push away the assailant so that the woman sustained a slight cut on her elbow. The ward administrative officer said the assailant seemed to have been under the influence of alcohol at that time.    

The ward administrative officer, U Nay Myo Aung said, "the incident occurred at about 4pm. The man was about 50 years old. He slashed the ward elder. The assailant had a history of crime, besides he seemed to have been drunk. When he slashed the ward elder her son happened to be beside the mother. Because he pushed the assailant away the lady got a slight cut at the elbow".  

The ward administrative officer further said that the man in question was not satisfied with the distribution of funds as he did not get his share, and he acted out of anger. Apparently he did not know that his wife had already been given the slip to get the cash assistance of K40000.   

U Nay Myo Aung said that they were distributing the funds, giving priority to new recipients. The fact was that the man's wife had already been given the slip and she had already drawn th. e money. He thought they hadn't got the money. They started arguing and the ward elder too became argumentative. The man came to the ward office previously, and some men noticed he had something in his pocket.
