Thai Security Council helps test Myanmar migrants for COVID-19

MYAWADDY-----Thailand National Security Council and Health Department are now helping test Myanmar migrants, for COVID-19, working in Mae Sot, Thai-Myanmar border area since the beginning of October 12th.

“Thai Health Department tested us for COVID-19. The department helped test all workers including Thai nationals for COVID-19,” said a woman who worked at a place near Mae Sot market.

Testing for COVID-19 virus for Myanmar workers is being carried out in the Mae Tao Clinic and another place near Mae Sot Market. On October 12th, a total of 1,200 workers had been tested for COVID-19.

“Although there is no coronavirus transmission in Thailand, Myanmar sees thousands of daily confirmed cases. So, the Thai National Security Council and Health Department helped out to the test on Myanmar migrants for COVID-19. Until October 13th, no one was found with coronavirus. In Thai, 59 persons died from COVID-19. The testing is free of charge. We already planned to test 3,000 for the Coronavirus,” said Joes from Mae Sot.

There are about 200,000 Myanmar citizens working at the factories in Mae Sot. If there is to be a COVID-19 positive case, they will treat a worker free of charge.

Thai authorities will provide a test completion certificate for COVID-19 to the Myanmar workers.

If a worker can’t show the above completion certificate, he or she will be fined.

Likewise, Myanmar is also testing cargo truck drivers for COVID-19.

Thailand saw 3,641 confirmed cases with 59 deaths. Now, they control the spread of coronavirus.
