YANGON---As there has been increased number of COVID-19 patients in Myanmar, plans are underway to carry out extended renovation tasks at four hospitals including Yangon General Hospital (YGH), says Professor Dr Zaw Wai Soe, Vice-Chairman of Yangon Region Coordinating COVID-19 Prevention, Control and Treatment Committee.
“We are now carrying out emergency extension works at the emergency department in YGH and the historical building located in front of YGH. So, we met with the Yangon Region Chief Minister and discussed the installation of Oxygen equipment at over 300 places in the historical building in the compound of YGH and to add more 30 beds at the ICU. The Yangon Region Chief Minister inspected the extension works being carried by the Ministry of Health and Sports on October 3rd. With the aim to be convenient for the Coronavirus patients, we urgently built the extended building at the YGH’s emergency ward since the beginning of October 4th . The building will include a PPE suit-up room made of Air-condition system, toilets and shower rooms. Likewise, North Oakkalapa People’s Hospital, Insein People’s Hospital and Thingangyun People’s Hospital are now carrying out emergency renovation works under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Sports,” said Professor Dr Zaw Wai Soe.
The Union Minister of Health and Sports met with the medical workers from North Oakkalapa People’s Hospital, Insein People’s Hospital and Thingangyun People’s Hospital who are also COVID-19 fighters in Nay Pyi Taw on October 2nd.
