The number of Covid-19 cases in Myanmar has reached 339 including a man from Kyauktaw, Rakhine State, who has no history of foreign travel, the Ministry of Health and Sports reported.

According to the news release issued by the ministry at 8 pm on July 16, two more persons tested positive for Covid-19. They are a 27-year-old man from Rakhine State who has no foreign travel history and a 24-year-old man from PyinOoLwin, Mandalay Region, who had returned from Thailand.

Both tested positive for Covid-19 while in quarantine. They are now receiving medical treatment at Sittway Hospital and Mandalay Kandawnadi Hospital respectively.

A total of 1,620 samples were tested in the first batch of July 16—695 by the National Health Laboratory (Yangon), 289 by the Department of Medical Research, 185 by the Public Health Laboratory (Mandalay), 278 by the Public Health Laboratory (Mawlamyine) and 173 by No (1) Defence Services Hospital (1,000-bed). Among them, two tested positive for the coronavirus.

The ministry also announced the second batch of Covid-19 tests at 8 am on July 17. The National Health Laboratory (Yangon) tested 254 samples but no case was reported.

Myanmar has so far seen 339 Covid-19 cases, six deaths and 270 recoveries.
