Myanmar has experienced 22 times of record high temperature since the beginning of this year with 47.5 degrees centigrade in the town of Chauk, the highest temperature in history, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).
“The temperature in Chauk is the highest in history. Myinmu experienced 47.2 degree centigrade in 2010. Now, Chauk has surpassed that record. With global warming, temperature increases year by year. Without even El Nino and La Nina, temperature is increasing due to the global warming,” said Kyaw Moe Oo, director general of DMH.
Chauk experienced a record high temperature of 47.1 degrees centigrade in 2019. The town then saw 47.5 degrees centigrade on May 8 this year, the highest temperature in history.
Since earlier this year, there have been 22 times record high temperature in Myanmar—two times in January, 12 times in March, six times in April and four times in May.
