Civil servants who will be coming back to Nay Pyi Taw from other regions after having Thingyan holidays may face quarantine for 21 days while others from Covid-19-affected regions will be quarantined depending on whether or not they show symptoms, according to the Nay Pyi Taw Council.

“There will be a great suspicion if one shows symptoms of coughing and high temperature after being tested. Then, they will have to be quarantined for sure. I don’t say everyone must be quarantined.  We don’t want lockdown. As Nay Pyi Taw Council has direct links with the union government, we have to be careful, council member Aung Myin Tun told The Daily Eleven.

As of April 19, toll gates and railway stations have been carrying out health checks on those coming to Nay Pyi Taw such as taking body temperature. Plans are being made for those coming from Covid-19-affected regions to be quarantined for 21 days.

“Those coming from Yangon and other regions where confirmed cases were found are kept  at Lewe Basic Education High School No (2). All other civil servants will be sent to Nay Pyi Taw Sibin Guesthouse. We have 10 people now in our place,” said Nilar Aung, deputy head of Lewe Township General Administration Department.

Nay Pyi Taw Council has imposed a curfew (from 10 pm to 4 am) as of April 18 in its council area made up of eight townships. Only health issues and funeral affairs are allowed.
