China will cooperate with Myanmar in the fight against illegal wildlife trade in the northern Myanmar as coronavirus is transmitted by wild animals, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Chen Hai said in a meeting with Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr. Myint Htwe in Nay Pyi Taw on 17 February.
In the meeting, the Chinese ambassador said Myanmar formed the Central Committee for the Prevention and Control against the Covid-19. He met the Union Minister for Health and Sports who is also the co-chair of the central committee. A total of 19 provinces from China have been providing virus-stricken Hubei province with necessary equipment, doctors and nurses since the outbreak of coronavius. China makes close cooperation with the WHO on the prevention, control and treatment and exchange of information. According to the experts, the fatality rate is lower than those of SARS, H1N1 (2009) and MARS. It is just around 2.1 per cent. It is found that the number of infected persons accounts for around one per cent of the total population in Hubei Province. China has tightened a ban on wildlife trade.”
The Chinese President’s goodwill tour to Myanmar is a successful visit. Both countries laid down the tasks for the future cooperation, the ambassador said.
Union Minister Dr. Myint Htwe said as a neighbouring country, Myanmar has paid a special attention to prevention, control and surveillance and tracing those who had the close contacts with the suspected patients. There is no report of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Myanmar so far. Myanmar will continue making cooperation in the areas of heath and sports as per the previously-agreed agreements and pledges.
