Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) is planning to provide electricity to Coco Island Township (Kokogyun), sources said.
Yangon-Kokogyun package tour was run during January and authorities are planning to run it one time per month.
“I asked people who came back from Kokogyun. They said the price of one viss of tomato is about three times as much as the price in Yangon. We are preparing for next time. We will carry goods for the locals in Kokogyun and plan to return with local products,” said Hla Aung from the Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTA).
It took about 40 hours to Kokogyun and is depended on the weather.
“Requirements of locals in Kokogyun are very much,” he said.
The plan is initiated by Yangon Region government to deal with the transportation for people in Kokogyun, to send consumer products to Kokogyun quickly and to provide assistance to the area development.
“If the ship can run regularly to Kokogyun, locals can be convenience and it will be priceless if the government provides 24-hour electricity,” he said.
It will cost Ks20 million for the round trip to Yangon-Kokogyun package tour and the YRTA provided the rental charges. Passengers don’t need to pay the charges. Although the YRTA didn’t charge the passengers, it is waiting the instruction of the regional government whether to collect charges on cargos or not.
