Yangon Payment System (YPS) is already installed in over 540 buses from the Yangon Bus Service and it will be installed in the remaining 150 YBS buses before December 27, said Hla Aung, Associate Secretary of the Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTA) on December 18.

“We installed the YPS devices in 544 YBS buses from December 6 to 17 and the quality control groups will check them. The YRTA, the respective bus companies, and Asia Starmar Company are installing the devices in line with the agreement. We planned to finalize the task by December 27,” said Hla Aung.

The installation process may take a long time as not all bus vehicles are the same. The devices are installed at night time, he said.

“The devices will be installed in 1,039 Forton and Scania buses. We need to use the devices in line with the time. We need to test the software and banking system,” he said.

The YPS devices are installed in 500 buses from YUPT, 500 buses from YBPC, 300 buses from Bandoola Company and 80 buses from Shwe Taung Paing Company.

A total of 100 bus lines are running under the YRTA in Yangon and according to figures from the YRTA released in June 2019, there are 6,635 buses running in YBS bus lines. About 1.8 million daily commuters are using the bus lines in Yangon.
