TAUNGOO- A ceremony to hand over 175 houses to the victims who had suffered from the flooding due to collapse of spillway channel from Hswar Dam situated in Yedashe Township, Bago Region, on August 29th of 2018 was held at Kyuntawsu village, yesterday morning and attended by Vice President Henry Van Thio.

Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association (MCEA) together with Bago Region Government Committee constructed 175 new houses in flood-hit areas in Bago Region. Over one year later, the company handed over the newly houses to the victims.

“Myanmar already drew natural disaster management plans aiming to reduce the damages being caused by natural disasters. The feasibility assessments of the basic infrastructures, safety of dams and diversion weirs and governmental buildings will be involved in the plans,” said Henry Van Thio. Moreover, the MCEA also donated school uniforms and bicycles for the students.

Likewise, the relevant departments including Daw Khin Kyi Foundation constructed a new village namely Kyuntawsu.

Since the constructing of Hswar Chaung Dam in 1998, the old Kyuntawsu village lost over 500 acres of farmlands. Moreover, the houses were moved onto the new places in 1999 due to the Hswar Chaung Dam as well as over 50,000 peoples were forced to flee their homes as the Hswar Chaung Dam broke out on August 30th last year.

Tun Tun from Kyuntawsu village spoke words of thanks for the heads of state, MCEA and departmental personals who fulfilled the needs of the village and constructed the newly village.

Due to collapse of Hswar Chaung Dam, there were seven dead and 49,382 flood victims in Yedashe Township as well as totaling 319 schools temporarily were closed in eastern Bago Region and about 150,000 acres of farmlands were damaged.
