YANGON-The Ministry of Health and Sports is now carrying out vaccination programs against the measles and rubella in 96 Townships across the nation. Moreover, the ministry plans to announce nationwide free vaccination against measles and rubella in coming 2023.
The Ministry had launched a campaign for vaccination against measles and rubella diseases in 96 townships across the nation where vaccination coverage is difficult to reach.
The campaign has two phases—from October 25th to 29 and November 26th to December 26th.
The health ministry is going to vaccinate children between age of nine months and 15 and half years aiming to combat the measles and rubella.
“We issued the list of 96 townships where the vaccination programs will be launched. We would like to urge the people living in the 96 townships to inject the vaccination. We are going to give only measles and rubella vaccination in the remaining 230 townships from November 26th to 28th,” said Dr Ye Lin Naing from Yangon Region Public Health Department.
The vaccination against measles had been carried out at the health departments from February 17 to 28 last year because the outbreaks of measles were epidemic in seven townships of Yangon Region last year.
The coverage townships were Insein, Hlaingthayar, Shwepyithar, Dagon Seikkan, South Dagon, East Dagon and Mingaladon Townships.
So, the health department injected measles vaccine to nearly 600,000 children aged nine months to 15 years.
Ministry of Health and Sports stepped up its efforts for the systematic monitoring of scattered outbreaks of preventable diseases including measles in some regions and states. As part of outbreak response immunization, the ministry carried out the measles vaccination program in the townships where the outbreaks of measles were reported most as quickly as possible, before the nationwide vaccination program scheduled for December this year.
In 2015, the ministry gave community- and school-based measles and Rubella vaccine to the children aged between five to 15 years nationwide.
