Six members of the Arakan Army (AA), facing a lawsuit under the anti-terrorism law after being arrested together with explosives in Mandalay city, appeared in Mandalay District Court for the second time on October 22.
Police captain Zaw Naing of No.11 Police Station, as a plaintiff, filed the lawsuit against them under Section 51(c) and 52 (a) of the anti-terrorism law on October 8.
"In the case of the AA insurgents, two police officers who approved arrest warrants for the men at large and two civilian plaintiffs were questioned. The next trial is on November 4. On that day, a management meeting will take place as to how to handle the case. There are still those on the run," said Marlar Htut, information officer from Mandalay District Court.
At about 10 am on September 10, police searched a house between 70th Street and Dathana Street in Myothit Ward-5, Chanmyathazi Township, Mandalay Region. At the house, 40 satellite phones, 30 binoculars, 25 GPS devices, 1,000 detonators and five packets of what assumed to be white gunpowder were seized and four men namely Aung Lin Htet, Myat Khaing, Chan Nyein and Po Kyaw were arrested.
Further investigation led to the arrest of two more. But some still remain at large.
Lawsuits started filing against them under Section 50 (i) /51 (c) of the anti-terrorism law and Section 67 of the telecommunications law, according to Chanmyathazi Township Police Force.
