Workplace and Work Environment Health Division is facing difficulties in providing workplace health services to private and uninsured workers.

Currently, the division can provide health services only to factory workers from the government-owned factories. Efforts are being made to make some updates to the Workmen’s Compensation Act 1923 as the workers are entitled to the rights for the diseases included in the occupational disease list of the Act.

In a bid to enable the workers to enjoy social security benefits and medical services, the Social Security Board has paid compensation of over Ks one billion and medical expenses of over Ks96 million to 780 insured workers according to the Social Security Law.

Last year, the government provided medical services to 10,523 patients  (9,671 outpatients and 852 inpatients) at the workers hospitals, 85,633 at 96 social security clinics, 55 departmental clinics and three clinics, 1,528 during field medical treatments by three workers’ hospitals and 2,702 during medical treatments by social security clinics.
