COLOMBO (The Island/ANN) - Sri Lanka receives a Japanese grant of USD 9.3 million to procure security equipment in the wake of the Easter Sunday attacks.

The Exchange of Notes for the grant aid was signed by Japanese Ambassador Akira Sugiyama and Secretary to the Treasury Dr. R H S Samaratunga at the Ministry of Finance yesterday.

Sri Lanka has received a Japanese grant of 1 bn Yen (approximately USD 9.3 million) to procure security equipment in the wake of the Easter Sunday attacks.

Reiterating Japan’s commitment to combat international terrorism, the Japanese embassy yesterday issued the following statement: In view of this, the Government of Japan provides a grant of Japanese Yen 1 billion (approximately USD 9.3 million) to the Government of Sri Lanka for the procurement of equipment for enhancing its counterterrorism and public security capabilities, including Mobile X-Ray Scanners, Walk Through Safety Inspection Gates, Vehicle Chassis Safety Inspection Systems, High Speed Craft and Rescue Equipment Vehicle, manufactured by Japanese enterprises.
