BAGO- More than 60 schools are closed in Bago as the water level of Bago River has exceeded its danger mark for the second time.
Although water level of Bago River decreased below its danger level during September 6th and 7th, heavy rain pours down daily in Bago and neighbouring areas. Thus the water level swelled over the 891 Centimeters danger mark for the second time, according to the observations made yesterday evening.
As flood hit wards in Bago and low-lying areas near Bago River, there have been difficulties of transport access and many needs.
“Flood took place about 15 days. The water level is about three-ft. In some wards, the water level is over five-ft. As we have no boat, we face difficulty of transportation access. Now, schools are closed. In our wards, there are many workers earning a bare living,” said Thein Aye from newly Ward No. C in Bago.
Due to the monsoon, flood occurred in eastern and western parts of Bago Region and over 60 schools were closed from September 1st to 11th.
Moreover, flood killed two people. The authorities had warned those who live along the embankment and low-lying areas that the water level of Bago River may increase.
