Yangon Airways will be renamed as Air Thanlwin starting from October 1, said Deputy Director General Ye Htut Aung from Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).

“The flight tickets are selling under the name of Yangon Airways currently and the new airline name “Air Thanlwin” may be printed on the flight tickets from October 1.

“The airline hasn’t notified us yet,'' said an air ticket agent.

The airline is operating flights to Yangon, Mandalay, Nyaung-U, Heho, Techilek, Kengtong, Dawei, Myeik, Kawthoung, Thandwe, Sittwe, Myitkyina and Putao.

Two domestic airlines: Air Bagan and Apex airlines, suspended their operations in recent years and returned their air operator’s certificates to the DCA.

A domestic airline, FMI airline, stopped their operation in July, 2018 and another domestic airline, Air Mandalay, temporarily suspended their operation last year after 24-year in service. The airline said the resumption of the flight service will be dependent on market conditions.

Some domestic airlines stopped their operations as they have little numbers of aircrafts and are losing profits. Some returned the rented aircrafts to their owners after the rental period has expired.
