YANGON-State Counsellor and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Daw Aung San Suu Kyi received Christine Schraner Burgener, Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Myanmar yesterday morning at the her office in Nay Pyi Taw, according to an announcement from Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On this occasion, both sides discussed latest progress about national reconciliation and peace process, holding a discussion for living in peaceful coexistence within social community in Rakhine State, conducting an educative talks for the public, opening of special envoy’s office in Nay Pyi Taw, implementation of bilateral agreement between Myanmar-Bangladesh for launching of Returnees repatriation program, activities of Independent Commission of Enquiry, settlement of current challenges including Rakhine affairs and bilateral cooperation between Myanmar and UNSG special envoy.
Kyaw Tint Swe, Union Minister of the State Counsellor’s Office, Kyaw Tin, Union Minister of International Cooperation and high ranking officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the meeting.
Likewise, the UNSG special envoy met with Vice Senior General Soe Win, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Commander-in-Chief (Army) at the Bayintnaung Guest House in Nay Pyi Taw on October 11th, according to the office of Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services.
During the meeting, matters relating to works conducted on establishing truth in Rakhine State issue by forming an Independent Commission of Enquiry and informing internationally, latest contact and work conducted with UN on child soldiers, Rakhine State development works conducted by Central Committee for the Implementation of Peace and Development in Rakhine State led by State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, security situation in northern part of Rakhine State after the events of August 2017, present and future situation of Rakhine State were discussed and views exchanged.
United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar then explained and discussed about working together towards making the international (audience) know about the true situation in Rakhine State, according to the Office of the Commander-in-Chief.
