Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) has reported that there will be temporary power cuts until January 2 as the Yadana offshore gas pipeline transmitting electricity to Yangon City is under repair.

Maintenance tasks for the gas pipeline transmitting gas to natural gas power plants in Yangon will be carried out from December 26 to January 2. During the maintenance work, there will be a reduction in power generation by about 100 megawatts from a natural gas-powered power plant into the power system.

An emergency halt occurred from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on December 26 as a result of the leak of the Taungtha natural gas pipeline to which gas is sent from the Shwe offshore natural gas project. During the repair, gas transport will be stopped. These gas pipelines will be reduced by about 315 megawatts of power transmission into the power system The YESC reports that some townships in the states and regions will be informed of temporary power outages because emergency loads must be reduced.
