According to Wi-Fi users, internet connections in Yangon have been unstable and disconnected for up to three days without improvement.
Users reported that since November 1, Wi-Fi networks have been extremely slow or completely disconnected, and as of November 3, they still have not returned to normal.
“We’ve been relying only on mobile data these days. Even though we have Wi-Fi at home, the connection is too slow, so we’ve been buying mobile data instead,” said one Wi-Fi user in Yangon.
Regarding the slowdown and outages, Mahar NET announced on November 3 that their International Main Uplink Network — which connects through undersea fiber cables — had suffered cable damage. As a result, the company has been providing services through backup links. Mahar NET explained that although users’ router indicators may show full green lights, some may still experience unstable connections and temporary slowdowns.
The company stated that it is working hard to restore normal service as soon as possible and asked customers for patience. Mahar NET also mentioned that despite various causes such as fiber cable cuts and red-light connection issues, they are continuing to provide regular services. Customers are advised to report any connection issues or red-light problems directly to their office.
