Yangon ports received over 400 container ships till August this year to handle cargo process

A total of 410 container ships from various international shipping lines arrived at the international ports in Yangon from January to August this year. 

There were 49 container vessels arriving in July and 55 in August to do cargo processes.

Likewise, 306 container vessels arrived at the ports from January to June—49 in January, 48 in February, 50 in March, 52 in April, 54 in May and 53 in June.

Since May 2021, more international container and general cargo vessels have arrived being able to handle over 11,000 more containers more and 115,000 more general cargoes.

Maersk Line Myanmar (Sealand Maersk) started operating three container ships in 2021.

A new Sittway port, a part of Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMTT), will be opened soon and 5,000- to 6,000-ton vessels can dock there, according to Rakhine State Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

With the finding of a new water route in the Yangon River, larger oceans-going vessels will be able to dock Thilawa Port in Yangon.
