The woman receiving treatment at Yangon General Hospital after her ex-husband tortured and set fire to her died of her severe injuries on February 9, nearly a month after hospitalization, said her family members.
She was admitted to hospital on January 11 after her ex-husband with whom she got divorced for over a year took her to a garage in South Dagon Township. She was tortured and set on fire there.
“She died in hospital at about 6 am. Her funeral will be held on February 11,” said her elder brother.
The information that the woman was set on fire was provided by relatives of her ex-husband. Her father then opened a case at South Dagon Police Station.
Her ex-husband, Soe Thura (aka) Soe Gyi, is now under detention in Insein Prison. The case has been changed for murder as the women died of injuries.
