UNSG special envoy inspects closed IDP camps in Rakhine

Christine Schraner Burgener, the United Nations Secretary General’s (UNSG) Special Envoy to Myanmar who is currently in Sittwe Township, Rakhine State, inspected the closed IDP camps in Nidin village, Kyauktaw Township yesterday, according to the announcement from the Ministry of Information.

The announcement also reported that the visiting UNSG special envoy and party met with the community-based civilian organizations at the Sittwe Hotel yesterday morning.

Later, the special envoy and party held separate meetings with the Rakhine State Chief Minister Nyi Pu, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Soe Aung, ministers from the Rakhine State Government and Maj-Gen Soe Naing, Commander of Western Command, at their offices.

Later, the visiting Special Envoy and party accompanied with Deputy Minister Soe Aung and Rakhine State Minister Aung Kyaw Zan looked at the closed IDPs’ camps in Nidin village in Kyauktaw Township.

They proceeded to Gaungtoke village where two communities are now peacefully living there and met with the locals.

The Information Ministry’s report also stated that plans are being carried out for closing of IDPs’ camps in Rakhine State. Currently, there are 85 individual houses have been built for Nidin IDPs’ camp.
