The Union Election Commission will ask the Facebook Team to remove any fake or incorrect news about election from Facebook, said UEC member Than Htay.

He disclosed the information in response to the question of a reporter during a press conference held at the UEC office in Nay Pyi Taw on February 6.

"We will be monitoring news. If Facebook posts are fake or incorrect, we will inform the team that they are to be removed," Than Htay said.

The commission has formed a team tasked with monitoring fake and incorrect news on Facebook and coordination will be sought from the Facebook Team, he added.

He said the Facebook pages of political parties would be given blue marks to prevent any fake news.

"We will support the political parties in trying to get blue marks for their Facebook pages. The aim is to prevent fake news. We will also help the headquarters of political parties to get blue marks. Our commission will go with this," Than Htay said.

He said the political parties would be informed about this matter.
