The delegation headed by U Thein Soe, chairman of the Union Election Commission (UEC), left for Russia by the invitation of the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, the Russian Federation, on September 6 to sign a memorandum of understanding between the Central Election Commission of Russian Federation and the Union Election Commission and study the local elections in the Russian Federation.

The UEC chairman was accompanied by UEC member U Aung Saw Win and Director U Zaw Naung Latt. They flew from Yangon International Airport to Russia and Yangon Region Government Attorney General U Htay Aung and Yangon Region Election Commission Branch officials greeted him as he left for Moscow.

The visit of Union Election Commission Chair to the Russian Federation, signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Central Election Commission and studying the local elections will promote cooperation between the two countries in the election activities, and learn about the election system of Russia, election procedures, the voting process and vote counting process. The visit will last from September 6 to 12.
