The Union Election Commission (UEC) carried out advance voting, vote counting, compilation of voter lists, and public posting of voter registers transparently and accurately in accordance with relevant laws, bylaws, and procedures, while inviting political parties, parliamentary candidates, election agents, witnesses, and the public, the UEC Chair said.

A meeting between the Union Election Commission and political parties was held this morning (January 5) at the meeting hall of the Union Election Commission Office, according to reports.

At the meeting, UEC Chair U Than Soe said that Election Phase (1) was successfully conducted on December 28, 2025, and that preparations are underway to continue holding Election Phases (2) and (3). He added that a 60-day period had been granted for election rallies and campaigning, and that after the completion of Phase (1), specific dates were also approved to allow continued campaigning for Phases (2) and (3).

He further urged political parties to ensure that campaign activities are conducted systematically and in compliance with election laws and regulations. He warned that campaigning through insults or defamation against rival parties or candidates could constitute a criminal offense as well as an electoral malpractice. Such actions, he said, must be regarded as unethical conduct and could harm both the image of the election and that of the political parties involved.

The UEC Chair also noted that the names of parliamentary representatives elected in Election Phase (1) are being officially announced. With regard to election expenses, revised and increased limits have already been set, and candidates were reminded to submit their campaign expenditure reports within the prescribed deadline in accordance with the relevant parliamentary election bylaws (Rule 102). Failure to submit the reports on time would result in being declared disqualified. He also said that the Commission had posted voter lists three times to ensure their completeness and accuracy, and had informed the public that requests for inclusion, corrections, and objections could be submitted in accordance with the law.

Regarding advance voting, the UEC Chair explained in detail that the entire process was carried out transparently and in line with laws, bylaws, and procedures, and that an official announcement to this effect had already been issued on January 2, 2026. He reiterated that advance voting, vote counting, preparation of voter lists, and their public display were conducted lawfully, transparently, and accurately, with political parties, candidates, election agents, witnesses, and the public invited to observe. The finalized voter lists have been publicly posted at the relevant sub-commission offices for public awareness.

He further said that to ensure recognition of the multi-party democratic general election as a free, fair, and transparent election, approximately 1,544 international election observers as well as international and domestic media personnel were granted permission to observe and report on the process. International election observers noted the strong interest and enthusiastic participation of voters and described the election as successful, offering words of support and recognition. The UEC Chair also expressed gratitude to voters who cast their ballots despite various difficulties.

The Commission, he emphasized, will continue to conduct the elections correctly, transparently, freely, and fairly in strict accordance with election laws, bylaws, and procedures. He expressed confidence that dignified parliaments would be formed through a credible and dignified electoral process.

Afterward, officials from political parties attending the meeting discussed and presented matters related to elections and political parties. Members of the Union Election Commission, along with responsible officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the General Administration Department, and the Ministry of Immigration and Population, provided clarifications and responses. The meeting concluded with closing remarks by the UEC Chair.

The meeting was attended by members of the Union Election Commission, officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the General Administration Department, and the Ministry of Immigration and Population, responsible personnel from the UEC Office, and chairpersons, leaders, and officials from 47 political parties.
