Two more MPs from the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) had resigned from the 45 member constitutional amendment committee approved by the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw.

One MP each from the  Arakan National Party, The Lisu National development party (Dulay party) and the National United democratic Party have already resigned from the committee before.

According to USDP MP Si Hue Dwe, one of the two that left, there currently is a problem of unfair process as the committee utilizes a voting system when deciding on conflicting issues, despite high interest from the public on how exactly they will cooperate on collecting data of 3765 facts and respond to them.

“What we want is for the draft issued by the committee to be one that were discussed and agreed to by all members of the committee. As it is now, there is no chance of that happening. The second point is that I found that the committee had failed to comply despite the required procedure, as mandated by article 5 in the order of the formation of the committee, to consult respective government departments, ministries, legal experts and other organizations. The result is that I don’t think the draft made by committee will ever be what we wanted,” said U Si Hue Dwe.

He also said that they desire to amend the 2008 constitution as well as complete work on submitted drafts legally and urgently.

“The Committee’s draft must be one approved by all of the committee members but I quit after I found out that it will not involve agreement from all members,” said Si Hue Dwe.

The formation of the committee and the commission at the parliament is in accordance with rules and regulations and parliamentarians can join or leave as they wish, according to Dr. Myat Nyana Soe, Joint Secretary of the constitutional amendment committee.

“ We have finished chapter 8 and now are amending chapter 9. Amongst 457 sections, almost 400 is already finished. We have declared that information yesterday. Now two USDP MPs state that they want to resign from our committee voluntarily. They have their rights. They have the right to resign” said Dr.Myat Nyana Soe.

Military MP Lieutenant-Colonel (Lt-Col) Myo Htet Win claimed that they need time frames and work plans  for the 2008 constitution amendment in order to systematically move further .

“For now, we don’t see such kind of things. We hear they will do it this way and then later do it another way. This is very unsystematic. Such methods will make the amendment process weak and slow,” said Lt-Col Myo Htet Win.

When asked whether military representatives will continue in that committee, he answered that they are cooperating in the present and will continue to do their duties.
