Two 25-year-old local men were shot dead near the football field at the entrance of Kalawthout Village in Mudon Township, Mon State, this morning, according to local sources.
The victims were identified as a 25-year-old man named Mon Thai from Ward (1), Kalawthout Village (south), and another 25-year-old man from Ward (1), Kawk Pi Htaw Village. A local resident reported that six AK-47 shell casings were found near the scene.
“Around 6 a.m., we heard six gunshots from the direction of the village football field. Shortly after, villagers rushed to the scene and found two men lying dead with gunshot wounds—one from our village and the other from Kawk Pi Htaw Village. Their motorcycle was found nearby,” said a local witness.
It remains unclear which armed group was responsible for the attack or the motive behind the killings, the resident added.
The bodies of the two victims were transported to Mudon Township Public Hospital by a local social assistance group.
In a separate incident in early December 2023, three armed men on a motorcycle arrived at the "Metta Man" fuel station near the entrance of Kalawthot Village, along the Mudon-Thanbyuzayat highway. They fired gunshots, stole over 600,000 kyats from the counter, and vandalized fuel pumps and other items inside the shop with machetes before fleeing the scene.
