Trade Department at the Commerce Ministry issued a statement on September 9, saying that it has banned the export of Koukou (rain tree) timber in a bid to protect old-aged Kukko trees from the point of environmental conservation view.

Old-aged Koukou trees across the country have long been protecting climate changes and environmental degradation and benefiting the human beings for many years. The conservation of old-aged Kukko trees is required to protect them from extinction, according to the statement by the Trade Department.

With the aim of ensuring the mitigation of climate changes and sustainable development of ecosystem, Myanmar is implementing 20-year plans for reforestation and rehabilitation of bio-diversity habitats. In addition to cooperation between the countries, international cooperation is required.

The conservation of bio species and biodiversities can be made through the firm plans based on UN CBD’s Post 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.

Myanmar will step up its efforts to combine environments and bio-diversities in the agricultural sector through capacity building, creation of better conditions, sharing of experience and sharing of technology and knowledge.
