They are not stopped the publication of City News newspaper due to financial loss and they are planning to transform it into a TV channel, said Yangon Mayor Maung Maung Soe on January 13.

Journals and newspapers are depended on advertisements and although City News newspaper had good advertisements, it was stopped as it is like a state owned newspaper, said the mayor.

“Yangon Region Chief Minister told us to transform it into an online media. We will have a TV channel and it will have activities of YCDC. It is still under discussion. It is just transformed into an online media from a printing media,” said the mayor.

The publication of City News newspaper, which was running with YCDC budget, was stopped from January 1 in this year due to the instruction of Yangon Region government.

The publication of the newspaper will be 29th year in 2020 and the ending of the publication of the newspaper is made in the era of Chief Minister of Yangon Region.

It says about what the YCDC announced to the public and it can relate to the authorities about what the public wants to say, said Saw Thein Win, Chief Reporter of the City News newspaper.

The paper is sold with Ks50 per copy and its agents sold it with Ks100 per copy. It was founded on November 18, 1991 as an evening newspaper and it started as a daily newspaper in 2000.
