The United States Peace Corps shuts down its Myanmar head office, citing instability and security concerns in the country.

“The vision of the Peace Corps is to promote world peace and friendship, and to send American volunteers to live and work with people from all over the world. Prolonged instability in Myanmar’s towns and villages has raised concerns about the safety of our volunteers. We have decided to close our headquarters in Myanmar because we are uncertain when our volunteers will be able to be recalled, “ the Peace Corps said in an email reply to the Daily Eleven.

The Peace Corps arrived to Myanmar in 2016 with over 90 volunteers who focus mainly on teaching English.
