Thai authorities have seized duty-free cigarettes from the Phaya Thonezu area of the Thai-Myanmar border in Kanchanaburi province, according to reports from the Thai side.

On February 27, Thai authorities searched a vehicle at the Nanpaket checkpoint between the Phaya Thonezu area and Sangkhlaburi town in Kanchanaburi province and found 1,240 boxes of duty-free cigarettes hidden in six brown parcels.

Thai authorities became suspicious when they found that the boxes had labels saying “If not accepted, leave them alone,” and upon inspection, they found the Texas 5 cigarette packs, Thai officials said.

The driver, a Thai national, was questioned by Thai authorities and he said he was responsible for transporting the packages, including goods, to Surat Thani and Narathiwat provinces, and that he was unaware that the packages contained duty-free cigarette packets, according to Thai media reports citing the statement from the Thai police.

After the international goods passed through Thailand, they were transported to the Thai-Myanmar border town of Phaya Thonezu in Myanmar, according to local reports.
