State Counsellor meets with Indian Army Chief

NAYPYITAW—State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi yesterday met with the Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw, according to the announcement from the Indian Embassy.

On the occasion were Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla and Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Saurabh Kumar.

The announcement reported that both sides discussed important bilateral issues. T The indian delegation also handed over a consignment of over 3,000 vials of the drug Remdesivir to Myanmar as a part of India’s assistance in fighting against the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in Myanmar.

Aung Ko, Director-General of the Political Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the State Counsellor and the Indian Army Chief discussed mutual cooperation including Kaladan Multipurpose project and development of border areas. And then, Indian government donated over 3,000 Remdesivir injections to Myanmar.

Likewise, the Indian government had donated Remdesivir injection produced by Zydus Cadila Company to the Ministry of Health and Sports on September 20th.

The Indian Foreign Secretary and the Indian Army Chief began a two-day visit to Myanmar starting on October 4th.

Moreover, the Indian Foreign Secretary had attended the 19th round of Foreign Office Consultations between India and Myanmar on October 1st. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Myanmar announced on October 1st that the Myanmar delegation led by Permanent Secretary Soe Han attended the 19th round of Foreign Office Consultations between India and Myanmar. During the meeting, both sides discussed boosting bilateral cooperation, exchange of visits among high ranking officers between Myanmar and India and cooperation in prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19.

The Indian government used the Remdesivir injection as a medicine of COVID-19.

Moreover, the authorities treated the US President who already has been infected with Coronavirus by using Remdesivir injection during last week.

The visit of Indian Foregoing Secretary and the Army Chief to Myanmar plays a vital role because there had been conflicts between India and Chinese Army in Ladakah region. And then, India already restricted oversea visits due to COVID-19 outbreak.
