NAYPYITAW- State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi attended the strake-driving ceremony for construction of orphan nursery (Nay Pyi Taw) on February 13.

Orphans Reduction and Protection Association  ( Myanmar) together with well-wishers and Construction Entrepreneurs Association will build the nursery in Wunna Theikkdi Ward, Zabuthiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw.

Upon completion, it will be handed over to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.

“We held the stake-driving ceremony of orphan nursery in Nay Pyi Taw. We will host all orphans from entire Myanmar. Currently, there are seven Residential Nurseries under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement. The nurseries are located in Yangon, Mandalay, Hpa-an, Pyin Oo Lwin and Sittwe Townships. The Orphans Reduction and Protection Association  ( Myanmar) aims to reduce the orphans’ number. So, we need to talk about the reproductive health for the teenagers. And then, we need the places to keep the orphans because there aren’t enough seven nurseries for us. That’s why, the Orphan Reduction Association donated the nursery,” said Dr San San Aye, Director-General of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.

She also added that the primary target was Single Mothers as because most single mothers in need would have little choice but to throw away the baby. Not only the orphan nursery but also a building dedicated to single mothers will be built.
