NAYPYITAW-  Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw-Yangon highway bus lines have stopped their operations since April 7th, according to sources.

“The Nay Pyi Taw Council and Nay Pyi Taw Road Transport Supervisory Committee didn’t instruct us officially to close down bus services amid the deadly COVID virus and during the Thingyan Festival. However, we will stop our bus services during the Thingyan festival. This year, some bus lines have closed their bus lines in an advance because they have worry about deadly COVID-19 virus,” said Deputy Head Aung Kyaw Naing from Nay Pyi Taw All Bus Lines Control Committee.

He also said that 32 bus lines already submitted their decision to suspend their operations. The remaining few may also close as there are several that connects with the Mandalay Region and if Mandalay were to shut them, the buses will automatically stop running as well.

Some buses reported in an advanced that they would operate during the Thingyan festival. If the public will request help of the relevant bus control committee, the committee is going to accept their request.

“Although many bus lines run their services before the first day of Thingyan, they have to close their services in an advanced due to the COVID-19 outbreak. However, all highway bus lines will be running their services under the guidance of the relevant government committees,” said Aung Kyaw Naing.

He also said that some bus lines repaid the ticket fees to the passengers because they had sold in an advanced.
