SNLD, DPNS reject offer to participate in new government

YANGON------ The military[Tatmadaw] has offered some political parties to participate in the new government but some ethnic political parties, including Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) and Democratic Party for a New Society (DPNS) rejected the military’s offer.

“The military offered us to send one of the members of SNLD for a state level role. So, we held the CEC meeting. According to the decision of the CEC meeting, we didn’t accept their offer because it was unequal in our view,” said SNLD’s general secretary Sai Leik.

After the military took power and also announced the state of emergency for up to one year via the military-owned Myawaddy news agency on February 1st, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing acted as the chairman of the State Administrative Council. Later, they offered political parties to take part in the new State Administrative Council, according to some political parties.

The joint general secretary of DPNS also said that the department of political parties under the Union Election Commission asked the DPNS to give the name and biography of DPND’s representative to participate in the new government committee led by military to a deadline on February 5th. But, the DPNS rejected the military offer as they do not accept the military coup.

The DPNS also said that they accepted the election result and then they called for a release of the detainees.

Likewise, the military asked the Kachin State People’s Party (KSPP) for participation in a new state administrative council. However, the KSPP can’t accept the military offer because they[KSPP] can’t hold the CEC meeting, according to KSPP’s vice-chairman-2 Kwan Kayaung Aung Kham.

The military also offered Karen National Party and Asho Chin National Party to take part in the new state administrative council. But, they didn’t accept the military offer.

The military formed a State Administrative Council involving eight military officers including Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and three civilian representatives on February 2nd.

On the following day, they added five civilian representatives in the state administrative council.

The civilian representatives who participated in the new state administrative council are Thein Nyunt, Chairman of New National Democracy Party, Khin Maung Swe , chairman of National Democratic Force, Phado Mahn Nyeing Maung from Kayin People’s Party and Aye Nu Sein, Policy Leadership Committee member of the Arakan National Party.
