A whirlwind is present in lower Sagaing, north of Magway regions, Chin and Rakhine states and is moving slowly, announced the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) on the morning of September 12.

According to forecast made at 5:30 am on September 12, the whirlwind occurred in the central and northwestern regions of Myanmar moved slowly to the west-northwest and continues to exist in lower Sagaing, north of Magway regions, and Chin and Rakhine states.

The whirlwind may continue to move slowly to the west-northwest and in the next 36 hours, it may reach the coast of Bangladesh and the adjoining northwestern Bay of Bengal, according to the forecast.

Natural disasters such as strong winds, flash floods and landslides can occur along with heavy rains in the areas where the cyclone passes. The DMH warned for people live near the highlands for the risk of landslides, for people live near small rivers and streams for flooding in advance and to be aware of domestic shipping and aviation as well.

In addition, monsoon is strong in Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal, according to the DMH.
