The owner of the Sky Villa condominium in Mandalay, where hundreds of people were killed during a recent earthquake, has been formally charged, according to sources.

U Naing Tun Lin, owner of the condo, was charged on February 10 at the Aungmyaythazan Township Court. He had earlier been arrested and charged under Section 304(a) at Police Station No. (1) in Aungmyaythazan Township in connection with the incident.

A group including Daw Thet Thet Khine, the wife of U Naing Tun Lin, who serves as Managing Director of NTL Construction Company—the firm that built the Sky Villa—held a ceremony at the Montaing Zayat on 19th Street. During the event, they offered an apology and provided compensation of 10 million kyats  to the family of each victim who died in the collapse.

The 11-storey Sky Villa condominium, located between 21st and 22nd Streets on 60th Street in Aungmyaythazan Township, Mandalay, collapsed due to the earthquake. More than 200 bodies have been recovered from the site, making it one of the deadliest building collapses linked to the disaster.
