A military officer with the rank of Major and his sister were shot and injured by two PDF members on December 22 while attending his sister’s wedding reception in Mayangone Township, according to reports.

The wedding reception was held at the APOLLO Hotel on Upper Central Road. As the Major was leaving the hotel after the event, two men waiting on the road opened fire, shooting approximately four times.

The assailants fled the scene following the shooting. The officer sustained a gunshot wound to his arm, while his sister suffered an injury to her lower back.

The injured officer was identified as Major Zeya Min, a military instructor from the Pyin Oo Lwin Defense Services Technical Training School, according to reports from Telegram channels close to the military.

The Yangon Phoenix and Together Urban Force PDF groups later claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it was carried out by their members.
