A shell fell and exploded in the compound of the Aye Pagoda in Motpalin model village, Kyaikhto Township, Mon State around 10:30 am on July 14, injuring a nun according to local sources.

“The nun was residing in a monastery in the compound and some religious buildings were also destroyed.  She was sent to Nyaungkhashe district hospital for medical treatment,” said a local resident.

The 60 mm shell hit the Aye pagoda compound.

Clashes and exchange of fire frequently broke out in Kyaikhto Township causing some casulties, local sources said.
