In Mon State’s Thaton Township, seven prisoners escaped from a prison transport vehicle at Thaton Prison in Zaymathwe Village. Of them, three were recaptured, while four remain at large, according to sources close to the prison.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on September 15, when the transport vehicle carrying inmates back from Thaton Township Court arrived at Thaton Prison. As the vehicle’s door was opened, seven prisoners fled, a person familiar with the situation said.

“Three of the inmates were recaptured by prison officers, but four are still on the run,” the source added.

Security forces have launched search operations in nearby villages, including Zaymathwe and Kyapan, to track down the four escaped prisoners.

The identities of the four escapees and the cases for which they were imprisoned are not yet known.
