People living in Myawaddy are now growing concern for their safety due to the clashes occurred in Kawkareik and security has been beefed up in the area according to locals of Myawaddy.
Since October 18, there were no trucks entering border areas and public concerns have increased as clashes continued in Kawkareik on October 21. People raise awareness among themselves for travelling although there are no clashes in Myawaddy.
"Myawaddy is still calm but nobody knows what will happen. Some schools permit students to go home half day instead of attending full day,” said a local of Myawaddy.
Flow of commodities has been stopped as clashes occurred on Myawaddy-Kawkareik Asia Road since October 18. As a result, the prices of rice and other local commodities have increased. Some roads in Myawaddy were blocked according to sources.
Security forces, Border Guard Forces and Police have increased the security in Myawaddy. Heavy fighting between security forces and joint forces of the KNU and PDF has occurred from 7:30 am on October 21 in Kawkareik, Kayin State and the firing on both sides continued until around 12:00 pm, according to locals.
