Recent rumours regarding funds donated for the Shwedagon Pagoda are all false, according to the pagoda's Gawpaka on February 13.

Rumours went viral on Social Media that the military had seized the money donated to the Shwe Dagon Pagoda but according to Gawpaka member Than Zaw, it is impossible.

"The rumours suggest that the funds for pagoda have been seized. It's not possible. We don't keep it at the pagoda so they cannot just take it. We deposit it in the bank and the banks are not open. How is it possible that they are going to take it? It's totally false," said Than Zaw.

A statement has been published on the Shwedagon Pagoda Facebook Page that all funds are deposited in government banks and that they are being used as per regulations. It also stated that monthly and yearly usage of funds are all reported to respective ministries and that all enquiries regarding the funds can be asked to the Gawpaka treasury department of the pagoda.
