The rumours about lockdown of Yangon on September 19, spread around in social media on September 17, are not true, wrote Naing Ngan Lin, Social Affairs Minister for Yangon Region in his Facebook page.

He said the regional government has no plan to place a lockdown in Yangon.

Some people working in local media said the government needs to counter the rumours quickly as wrong information came out in COVID-19 period.

“The government has responsibilities to deal with the situation as wrong information can scare people. They need to make a response quickly,” said an editor.

People criticized when roads in some townships in Yangon were blocked.

The road blockages are removed after the regional government instructed authorities to remove the blockages.

At the present, 28 townships in Yangon Region are included in “stay at home” arrangement.
