On July 29, the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) released a statement urging for ceasefire discussions amid ongoing clashes in northern Shan State. The statement also emphasized RCSS's commitment to safeguarding regional stability in southern Shan State.
The statement was issued following RCSS’s biannual meeting held from July 26 to 28 at their headquarters in Loi Tai Leng.
The RCSS expressed deep concern over the plight of the Shan people affected by the clashes in northern Shan State, highlighting the loss of homes and possessions, casualties, injuries, and the displacement of families. Children, women, and the elderly are particularly suffering due to these conflicts.
Over the past three years, continuous clashes across the country, economic downturns, widespread human rights violations, and weakening rule of law have led to an increase in criminal activities, causing significant social and economic hardships for the public, the RCSS noted.
The RCSS pledged to work with the people in southern Shan State to protect and prevent the destruction and loss of lives, homes, and properties.
The RCSS called on relevant organizations to engage in direct talks and work towards a ceasefire, emphasizing the importance of negotiations and solutions for building a federal democratic union.
The RCSS is a signatory of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) and is an armed ethnic organization based in Shan State.
