Pyithu Hluttaw Records Key Actions Including Vice President Selection and Committee Formation

During the first regular session of the third Pyithu Hluttaw, the parliament recorded key activities including the election of a Vice President and the formation of committees, it is reported.

On the fifth day of the session, held today (April 8), the Hluttaw officially documented the actions carried out throughout the session period.

The first regular session of the third Pyithu Hluttaw was held from March 16 to April 8, 2026. On the opening day, the Hluttaw elected and appointed the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and presiding members, and also held meetings of the elected representatives’ groups.

During the second, third, and fourth days of the session, in accordance with the Constitution, the 2012 Pyithu Hluttaw Law, and the 2013 Pyithu Hluttaw Rules, several committees were formed. These include the Bill Committee, Public Accounts Committee, Hluttaw Rights Committee, and the Government Guarantees, Pledges and Undertakings Scrutiny Committee. These committees have already begun carrying out their respective duties.

“The group of elected Pyithu Hluttaw representatives selected and nominated a Vice President, and the name list was submitted to the Union Parliament Speaker. I am proud to say that the Vice President chosen by the elected representatives has now been elected as the President and is currently carrying out the responsibilities of the office,” said Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Yi.

Resolutions adopted during the session, held at the Pyithu Hluttaw Hall from March 16 to April 8, included the appointment of the presiding members, the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the selection of one elected representative to serve on the Presidential Eligibility Scrutiny Body, and the election of a Vice President.

Approvals made during the session also covered the formation of key committees such as the Bill Committee, Public Accounts Committee, Hluttaw Rights Committee, and the Government Guarantees, Pledges and Undertakings Scrutiny Committee, along with approvals related to their duties, powers, rights, tenure, and procedures for meetings.

In terms of organizational matters, the session focused on forming the aforementioned committees. Regarding record-keeping, the Hluttaw documented attendance records for the first through fifth days of the session, recorded five congratulatory messages sent to the Speaker, and also documented attendance at the first and second meetings of the elected representatives’ group sessions.
