Former President U Win Myint said he didn’t know about the formation of NUG (National Unity Government), CRPH (Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw) and PDF (People’s Defence Force) when he was asked by the plaintiff lawyer during a cross-examination over the charge against him under section 505 (b) of the penal code of Myanmar, said a member of his legal defence team.
President U Win Myint, State Counselor Daw Aung San Su Kyi and Dr Myo Aung were brought to trial at a special court in the compound of the Nay Pyi Taw Council on October 12. U Win Myint was mainly questioned and cross-examined on that day.
“The plaintiff lawyer asked him whether he knew the formation of CRPH with ousted lawmakers of the National League for Democracy, NUG and PDF. He said he was not outside when they were formed. At that time he was already arrested and detained, so he knew nothing about them,” a lawyer of the legal defence team quoted as saying.
The team objected to the question and said it was irrelevant, he added.
U Win Myint was also asked if he knew the formation of PDF terrorist groups with NLD members in many parts of the country. The legal defence team also opposed the question, he said.
The plaintiff lawyer again asked U Win Myint if he knew about PDF members’ bomb attacks on railroads and public places, attacks on security forces and killings of innocent public members by accusing them of being military informants. The question was also opposed by the lawyers’ team saying it was irrelevant to the case.
“We objected to what the plaintiff lawyer asked. In this case, he (U Win Myint) was not guilty. He was already in detention when those things happened. When he was under arrest, he was told to resign from his post. Only these things are relevant to the court case,” the lawyer said.
