President attends celebration of 50% nationwide electrification

A ceremony to celebrate the achievement of 50 percent nationwide electrification took place at the Ministry of Electricity and Energy in Nay Pyi Taw, attended by President Win Myint, the President Office reported. 

In his opening speech, the President said the government has been making efforts to meet domestic electricity consumption as power supply in Myanmar increases 15 percent to 19 percent yearly. 

Since his government took office, electricity has been prioritized in spending the State funds, he said, adding that from April 2016 to December 2019, three hydropower generator stations, six thermal energy generator stations and one solar energy generator station totalling 10 were built in the country to boost electricity generation up to 904 megawatts. 

Electricity generation increased for 34 percent of consumers in March 2016 and for 50 percent in December 2019, the President said. 

The ceremony was also attended by Union ministers, deputy ministers and departmental heads.
