The powerful earthquake caused ground cracks in earthquake-prone areas, according to sources.
The earthquake that struck on March 28 caused damage in areas such as Pyawbwe, Thazi, and Yamethin, according to a statement from TSBM - The Spirit of Brotherhood Mission, which is conducting fieldwork in the areas.
"The cracks are long. They appear and disappear one after another. The depth of the cracked soil varies from one or two feet to 70 feet (in the fields north of Katin Village, southwest of the Myinyan Yarn Factory). What is noticeable is that the main cracks are parallel to each other, with two small cracks running north and south. The main crack, which is believed to be caused by strike slip motion, has cracked the building, the underwater floor, and even the palm tree trunks. Around one to two hundred feet near the parallel cracks, S-shaped deformations, which are believed to be caused by a shear wave, have been observed. In some places, double s-shaped deformations due to super sheer waves are also seen," wrote a member of the TSBM on social media.
It is reported that extensive damage was seen at the intersections of large fissures that pass through Pyawbwe and Thazi towns.
